The right has convinced us that knee jerk liberals are unelectable
Wed Jun 22, 2005 at 09:44:17 PM PDT
Should we support progressive candidates in lieu of supporting a candidate with more mainstream electibility? And what if the progressive candidate is also a minority--two potential strikes--do we still support the progressive candidate?
This is the question that may unfortunately dog progressives and the left wing of the Democratic Party for years to come.
The McGovern legacy haunts us today even though most of us were only twinkles in me mother's eyes. The right has so thoroughly convinced us that knee jerk liberals are unelectable and if by chance they were elected their mere presence in the halls of great legislatures would humiliate Americans in general for time eternal. I mean isn't that what they are saying about Howard Dean--kinda of like: you aren't serious, he could never be a--fill n the blank.
Well folks its bullshit.
Howard Dean could be any fill in the blank you can imagine, and so could a lot of other progressive folk. It is time to back true progressive candidates with your money, your vote and your vocal support. It is a risk worth taking. The payoff will be fantastic.
Mfume is only progressive running for MD Senate
Tue Jun 21, 2005 at 08:36:20 PM PDT
If Mfume becomes a Senator it would not only give the progressive wing of the Democratic Party another progressive Senator but he would also be the second
African American Senator to boot. I believe that
Chris Bowers hit it on the head.
If Progressives want Progressive Democrats to run for President, then we have to greatly expand our potential Presidential bench. Right now, that bench is so thin that we seriously consider people like Obama and Schweitzer even though they each first took statewide office less than six months ago. By way of contrast, the New Democratic Presidential bench, comprises all of the eight candidates listed in yesterday's poll. This is not something they managed to achieve overnight, or by way of conspiracy. It took literally decades of organizing, identifying, fundraising and grooming candidates to achieve that bench.

Please support Kwasi Mfume for Maryland Senate. He is a real progressive/liberal. His heart and soul and voting patterns are passion not image.
We have stop supporting folks based on image or perceived electability. They are wrong. They are just guessing.. Just like they were wrong about Howard.
Liberals need to support passionate politicians-those folks that will vote with their heart over and over.
Howard Dean was passionate, he had image flaws and the mainstream abandoned him. Don't abandon Kwasi. This guy is for real. He will represent your interests until the cows come home.
